Spirometry Surveillance involves the regular assessment of lung function through spirometry testing. This test measures the volume of air an individual can inhale and exhale, as well as the speed at which they can do so. By monitoring these measurements over time, employers can identify any changes or abnormalities in lung function, which may indicate the onset of respiratory conditions or the impact of occupational exposures.

Employees are asked to take a deep breath and exhale forcefully into a spirometer, which measures several vital parameters, including forced vital capacity (FVC) and forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1). These results are then compared to predicted values based on factors such as age, gender, height, and ethnicity.
