Lung function test, also known as spirometry, is a diagnostic test that measures how well a patient’s lungs are functioning. This test is performed by having the patient breathe into a device called a spirometer, which measures the amount of air a patient can inhale and exhale, as well as how fast they can do so. Spirometry is commonly used to diagnose and monitor lung conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and lung fibrosis. The test measures lung function by measuring the patient’s forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume (FEV1), and peak expiratory flow (PEF).

Spirometry is an essential tool in the diagnosis and management of lung conditions and can provide valuable information about a patient’s lung function.
