Laparotomy is a surgical incision (cut) into the abdominal cavity. This operation is performed to examine the abdominal organs and aid diagnosis of any problems, including abdominal pain. Common reasons for performing a Laparotomy include:
a Hysterectomy: The surgical removal of the uterus.
b. Oophorectomy: This is the surgical removal of one or both ovaries
c. Salpingectomy is the surgical removal of one or both fallopian tubes. This may be needed to treat ectopic pregnancy or infection.
